The U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy (USCCD), in partnership with the U.S. State Department and with the support of more than 1000 U.S. Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) conducting citizen diplomacy activities, will convene a historic U.S. Summit for Global Citizen Diplomacy on November 16-19, 2010 in Washington, DC. The goal of the Summit and ten year Initiative for Global Citizen Diplomacy is to double the number of American volunteers of all ages involved in international activities at home or abroad, from an estimated 60 million today to 120 million by 2020.

The summit will include eight roundtable led by well-known and nationally recognized experts. These roundtables will discuss critical issues that impact U.S. citizen involvement in international activity and present reports with recommendations for future action. Roundtable reports and discussion recommendations will be available in a post-Summit report by the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy.
Roundtables include Public Policies and Funding Issues that Affect U.S. Citizen Diplomacy Programs and Services, chaired by Michael McCarry, Executive Director, Alliance for International Educational and Cultural Exchange, and hosted by Amb. Linda Jewell, Vice President, International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP). Members of this roundtable include Matt Armstrong, president and founder of the MountainRunner Institute (and your blogger); Sherry Mueller, president, National Councils for International Visitors; Jane Anderson, executive director, Fulbright Association; Steve Trooboff, president & CEO, CIEE; and others. This roundtable will present 2:15p - 4:45p (including a 15 minute break) on Wednesday, November 17.
Another of the eight roundtables is Impact of Traditional and New Media Technology on Citizen Diplomacy, co-chaired by David Nassar, President, Hot Spot Digital, and Anoush Tatevossian, Director, Projects and Partnerships, MobileActive (and USC Public Diplomacy program graduate).
A briefing session with Doug Wilson, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, 2:15p - 3:30p on Wednesday, November 17 (same time as the Public Policies roundtable) on Citizen Diplomacy and the Role of the Military will include "special guests" from the Defense Department.
